My, my, that crow looks tasty
I was enjoying two and a half succulent Gin and Tonics with my friend Bacon last Thursday evening at the Continental when I made a startling confession. I announced that I was planning on going to pitchfork. Having spent the better part of a year bitching about music festivals in general, I'm sure Bacon was taken back by this sudden change of heart. Do not get me wrong, I'll probably still hate it and complain vociferously about the length of the sets, the quality of the sound and the sheer stupidity of the crowd but I pretty much do that every time I leave the house. It's all part of my charm - half Eyore half Lucille Van Pelt.
My main gripe with music festivals stems from the fact that I've always disliked crowds. Being a misanthrope and claustrophobic is never a good combination in someone who enjoys live music but this year's lineup is so amazing that to miss it would be inane, so like a good boy I will grin and bite my pillow.
Reasons for going:
1.) Vampire Weekend - they have become my summer soundtrack
2.) Public Enemy
4.) Extra Golden & Ruby Suns - more world beats please
5.) M. Ward - sadly sans Zooey
6.) Spoon
7.) Bon Iver - best thing to come out of Wisconsin since... me
8.) Animal Collective - I need more noise in my life
Eight is my lucky number so I'll leave it there but I'm leaving out a bunch of other bands. I only hope that Bacon still has an unclaimed three-day pass.
